I Am Number 8 Study Guide

By John W. Gray

  • Paperback
  • £12.99

The I AM NUMBER 8 Personal Application Guide is an interactive companion "playbook"to accompany Pastor John Gray's I AM NUMBER 8.

Much like the books used by athletic coaches around the world, this guide will outline the strategies readers will have to enact and the moves they will need to make in order to live purposely as a number 8.

One of the key ways most people are able to connect to a concept is by walking it out in community. Sometimes that process occurs in a church or ministry group and other times, especially nowadays, community is represented virtually or intangibly. Nevertheless, knowing that you are not alone on a journey can make the travel easier. In consideration of this, each chapter of this guide will introduce a "character" who will share his or her story with the reader and walk them through the trials and triumphs of mastering the concepts presented in the corresponding chapter of the book. The reader will interact with this "character" as if he or she is a real person as they move through the other sections of the chapter.

The "Align Your Life" section of each chapter will be intentionally interactive. Readers will be provided activities, puzzles, surveys, role-playing and journaling exercises, and social media related tasks that will allow them to practically apply the concepts learned in the chapter. Finally, the book will offer content-specific prayers that will help readers seal their efforts

Midnight Lullabies

Lauren Eberspacher
Authors:
Lauren Eberspacher

Moms, you need these words of hope and light during the early days while you cradle your new baby in the midnight hours.Often, mothers are told about the joyful, exciting things that they are about to embark on as they enter into parenthood. What people fail to share is the hard seasons of motherhood: loneliness, anxiety, depression, insecurity, comparison, disconnect with the Lord and their husbands, and loss of identity. These seasons can consume their hearts and steal their joy, leaving them hopeless and full of shame. Most mothers hide during this time, thinking that they are alone or that something is wrong with them. The simple truth is that having children changes everything. But so does Jesus. His Word can breathe life into every space, and MIDNIGHT LULLABIES meets the weary mama in the trenches of motherhood while she does Kingdom work within the four walls of her home, shining light and giving hope when it seems most far away.In MIDNIGHT LULLABIES, over 31 days, Lauren Eberspacher explores those places of motherhood that are often left unspoken. While embarking on her own journey of being a mama, she has encountered seasons that shocked and surprised her. But there is always hope. As a storyteller, Lauren takes the everyday moments and gives biblical insight to the mother facing these hard seasons, giving the reader a sense that they are having a conversation with a friend around a cozy kitchen table.Mothers often just want to hear another mom say she's in it with them. And when Eberspacher addresses these hard issues, she not only says, "I've been there; I understand," but she follows it with, "But God." Eberspacher shows that Jesus can be found in every moment of motherhood and that His strength and His Word are enough for you.

Okayest Mom

Natalie Gwyn
Authors:
Natalie Gwyn

NATALIE GWYN uses humor to brilliantly capture how God led and helped this mother of two to adopt four children from Ethiopia and successfully bond her blended family. The wife of a technology entrepreneur, already birth mother of two healthy young children-a boy and a girl-was living comfortably in the suburbs. Then she doubled the size of her family by adopting four Ethiopian children. Why?Her answer: "God."Popular blogger NATALIE GWYN has been cited widely for her candid, insightful, often humorous writing on cross-cultural adoptive Christian families (which number more than 4 million). HuffPo has linked to her controversial posts and celebrities like Kathie Lee Gifford have quoted and pictured her on social media. Here Natalie tells her whole mom story, including the only-God-could-do-this backstory. Her lighthearted narrative begins with the nudge of God toward the uncomfortable. She and her husband are almost certain they have misunderstood what the Almighty is asking of them, and with self-deprecating humor Natalie allows readers a glimpse into the process by which this already imperfect mom agreed to transnational, transracial adoption of more children than she already has.Natalie then takes the reader on her family's adventure to Ethiopia to legally adopt the three siblings God has chosen to add to their family. With the skill of a detective novelist, she reveals their discovery of a fourth sibling, their critical decision not to leave this child behind, and their harrowing quest to find, woo and legally adopt her, too.Similar to the laugh-out-loud humor of books on blended step-families, Natalie shares the bedroom, bathroom and kitchen scenes of this adoptive family's huge adjustments. She brilliantly captures each child's and each parent's perspective and, in doing so, reveals God in their midst.

I Am Number 8

John W. Gray
Authors:
John W. Gray

David was born a number 8--a hidden gem, often overlooked and undervalued by everyone except for God. For David, being a number 8 seemed like a curse until the day God transformed him from the unknown eighth son of Jesse into the much-honored king of Israel. When God sends out an invitation to greatness, His directions don't always make sense to us. You may feel like the most invisible, broken number 8 out there, but God sees your hidden value and is growing you for better things. David didn't know it, but his time as a simple shepherd with a dull future did not go unnoticed by God. In David's darkest moments, he was cultivating the kind of gifts, wisdom, and leadership he would need to become a king. Even when you're an underdog in the eyes of the world, God is working behind the scenes to develop you into a king or queen.

No Other Gods

Ana Levy-Lyons

Ana Levy-Lyons

An insightful and fresh perspective of the Ten Commandments reveals how this ancient text is the underpinning for social justice, equality, and the foundation of society. Each commandment is expanded beyond interpersonal morality to encompass the global economy and our hyper-connected age. Stealing, for example, is recast as the difference between the fair trade price of a commodity and what we pay. Keeping the Sabbath is recast as resistance to consumer culture, having enough. The Ten Commandments are a resource for everyone, from the spiritual-but-not-religious to the deeply observant, who wants to resist injustice, heal our earth, and find personal dignity amid the free-for-alls of modern life. We don't have to invent a bunch of new practices to meaningfully integrate our spirituality and politics. There is already a perfectly good set of ten of them, with as much progressive firepower as any of us can handle, that has existed for some 3000 years.Introduction: The Ten Commandments Are Practices of LiberationThe First Commandment: You Shall Have No Other Gods Besides MeDethrone the Modern Deities of Political, Social, and Corporate PowerThe Second Commandment: Do Not Make for Yourself a Sculpted Image; Do Not Bow to Them, Do Not Serve ThemAccept No Substitutes for God's Power of LiberationThe Third Commandment: Do Not Take the Name of God in VainDefend the Goodness of God; Take Responsibility for Resistance and ChangeThe Fourth Commandment: Observe the Sabbath Day and Keep it HolySquander One Day Every WeekThe Fifth Commandment: Honor Your Father and Your MotherStay Accountable to Where You Came FromThe Sixth Commandment: Do Not KillRenounce Human and Ecological ViolenceThe Seventh Commandment: Do Not Commit AdulteryStay In for the Long Run, Reject Throw-Away CultureThe Eighth Commandment: Do Not StealPay What Stuff Really Costs in Fair Wages and the Planet's ResourcesThe Ninth Commandment: Do Not Testify Against Your Neighbor As a Lying WitnessSpeak and Demand Truth in Every Sphere - Home, Corporations, GovernmentThe Tenth Commandment: Do Not CovetPractice Your Liberation--You Have Enough, You Are Enough
