'A perfect Christmas present!'

'Glorious photos and some very funny commentary'

'What an awesome collection of pub dogs'

'Beautiful pictures of a range of public house pooches the length and breadth of Britain' - Carl Morris

'A beautifully crafted book giving a perfect insight into British culture' - Jill Monum

'Great book, well thought out and beautifully produced'

This beautifully photographed collection tells the stories of the much-loved dogs, of all kinds, that live in pubs all over Great Britain, not least the Pub Dog Capital of Britain, Whitstable.

Locals love their pub dogs and landlords often say that people come in as much for the dog as for anything else. Dogs make a pub feel like home for regulars.

Fleckney and Lucas chronicle the incredible variety of dogs that actually live in, rather than simply visit, Britain's pubs. They showcase the dogs with their beautiful photographic portraits and tell their stories, too. In feel, this is very much a 'family album' of British pub dogs.

Biographical Notes

Paul Fleckney (Author)
PAUL FLECKNEY is a journalist. He is an avid pub-goer and a life-long dog lover who's never owned a dog, and therefore gets a shameless vicarious pleasure from the Pub Dogs project.

Abbie Lucas (Author)
ABBIE LUCAS is a London-based film-maker and photographer. Her involvement with pubs began earlier than most, having grown up in two that were owned and operated by her parents on the South Island of New Zealand. She loves dogs too, even when they insist on lying on her while she tries to snap their portrait.

Everyone Dead By Teatime: A Rational, Level-headed Guide to the End of the World from The Daily Mash

Neil Rafferty & Paul Stokes
Authors:
Neil Rafferty & Paul Stokes

A caustic, hilarious guide to the year's events, seen through the eyes of the UK's most popular satire website, The Daily Mash. This new annual collection, following last year's successful title Halfwit Nation, includes: BANKS TO LEND YOU YOUR OWN MONEYThe government is to invest £500bn of your money in British banks so they can lend it back to you with interest. The historic move is being hailed as a lifeline for the financial system as long as nobody asks too many questions...HUDSON CRASH LANDING STILL BETTER THAN HEATHROWPassengers on the plane which crash landed on the Hudson river last night insisted the terrifying experience was much better than Heathrow. As the stricken US Airways jet drifted over the skyscrapers of Manhattan before ditching in the freezing water, dozens of frightened passengers thanked God they were not arriving in London.BROWN REFUSES TO HAND BACK PENSIONGordon Brown last night dismissed calls to surrender his £123,000 a year pension when he is forced to stop being prime minister next June. Mr Brown was defiant in the face of City outrage despite the UK government's annual operating loss of £100bn, rising to £1.5 trillion when the write-down of its banking assets is taken into account.Everyone Dead By Teatime is a treasury of twisted news, comic features, worthless opinion polls and celebrity diaries...PRAISE FOR HALFWIT NATION:"Give this book as a Christmas present and you'll look immeasurably wittier as a result. Three Men on a Diet

George Courtauld
Authors:
George Courtauld

Three Men on a Diet is the very funny and brutally honest story of three mighty men with nothing to gain and so much to lose: a diet book with a difference.Three Men on a Diet is the story of George, Reggie and Sebastian, three middle-aged friends and food- and drink-lovers, learning how to lower their calorie intake without losing their joie de vivre.Determined to improve his looks and health before it's too late (and after being told that he looked like a pregnant bulldog), Reggie persuades the others to join him on a five-month quest to shed three stone. Each has his own degree of cynicism, commitment and willingness to compromise on breakfast, parties and alcohol.Amidst the bewildering array of information on offer (what is a carb? What is saturated fat? How many units in a bottle of wine?), together they learn how to navigate stumbling blocks such as mayonnaise, chocolate and cheese, and support each other through fortnightly weigh-ins and varied levels of success with the Fast Diet, the Atkins Diet and others. At the very least, they hope to give up snoring and rekindle their love lives.Join the trio on their journey as they learn the truth about dieting. This hilarious and realistic guide rips up the rule books: it is an anti-diet book for those who enjoy the finer things in life.

Out of the Clouds

Linda Carroll, David Rosner
Authors:
Linda Carroll, David Rosner

In the bestselling tradition of the The Eighty-Dollar Champion, the propulsive, inspiring Cindarella story of Stymie, an unwanted Thoroughbred, and Hirsch Jacobs, the once dirt-poor trainer who bought the colt on the cheap and molded him into the most popular horse of his time and the richest racehorse the world had ever seen. In the wake of World War II, as turmoil and chaos were giving way to a spirit of optimism, Americans were looking for inspiration and role models showing that it was possible to start from the bottom and work your way up to the top-and they found it in Stymie, the failed racehorse plucked from the discard heap by trainer Hirsch Jacobs. Like Stymie, Jacobs was a commoner in "The Sport of Kings," a dirt-poor Brooklyn city slicker who forged an unlikely career as racing's winningest trainer by buying cheap, unsound nags and magically transforming them into winners. The $1,500 pittance Jacobs paid to claim Stymie became history's biggest bargain as the ultimate iron horse went on to run a whopping 131 races and win 25 stakes, becoming the first Thoroughbred ever to earn more than $900,000. The Cinderella champion nicknamed "The People's Horse" captivated the masses with his rousing charge-from-behind stretch runs, his gritty blue-collar work ethic, and his rags-to-riches success story. In a golden age when horse racing rivaled baseball and boxing as America's most popular pastime, he was every bit as inspiring a sports hero as Joe DiMaggio and Joe Louis. Taking readers on a crowd-pleasing ride with Stymie and Jacobs, The People's Horse unwinds a real-life Horatio Alger tale of a dauntless team and its working-class fans who lived vicariously through the stouthearted little colt they embraced as their own.

Coal Black Mornings

Brett Anderson
Authors:
Brett Anderson

Brett Anderson came from a world impossibly distant from rock star success, and in Coal Black Mornings he traces the journey that took him from a childhood as 'a snotty, sniffy, slightly maudlin sort of boy raised on Salad Cream and milky tea and cheap meat' to becoming founder and lead singer of Suede.Anderson grew up in Hayward's Heath on the grubby fringes of the Home Counties. As a teenager he clashed with his eccentric taxi-driving father (who would parade around their council house dressed as Lawrence of Arabia, air-conducting his favourite composers) and adored his beautiful, artistic mother. He brilliantly evokes the seventies, the suffocating discomfort of a very English kind of poverty and the burning need for escape that it breeds. Anderson charts the shabby romance of creativity as he travelled the tube in search of inspiration, fuelled by Marmite and nicotine, and Suede's rise from rehearsals in bedrooms, squats and pubs. And he catalogues the intense relationships that make and break bands as well as the devastating loss of his mother.Coal Black Mornings is profoundly moving, funny and intense - a book which stands alongside the most emotionally truthful of personal stories.

Fortune Makers

When Peter Drucker wrote Concept of the Corporation in 1946, he revealed what made the large American corporation tick. Similarly, The Art of Japanese Management by Richard Pascale in 1981 explained the unique practices developed by the Japanese to bring that country's economy out of the ashes. The emerging Chinese juggernauts-the Alibabas, Lenovos, and Haiers-need similar revelation since they are a different breed in their own right. Little is understood about them, how they work, and what makes them such potentially imposing competitors. Now, based on unprecedented access to the people who have created and grown the great private companies of China-the "General Electrics and Sonys" of that country, Michael Useem, Harbir Singh, Peter Cappelli and Neng Liang bring to life the distinctive practices of Chinese business leaders as they invent their own way forward to create world-class companies, and provide a comprehensive look at the leaders and businesses that are the future of the Chinese economy-and major competition to Western companies.Chinese companies are emerging on the global stage as never before, and their leadership lessons are invaluable in understanding and coping with their growing commercial presence worldwide. Company managers everywhere will want to understand China's distinct way of doing business if they are to compete against the companies that already dominate the domestic Chinese market and are coming to the fore in foreign markets, including the U.S.
