The Anxiety Book

Elisa Black
Authors:
Elisa Black

Since journalist Elisa Black wrote an article about her lifelong struggle with anxiety in March 2015, it has been read by hundreds of thousands of people. Clearly, what Elisa had to say found a readership far bigger than she could have expected - and with millions of Australians suffering from anxiety, it's little wonder. There is far more to Elisa's story, though, than one article can cover. In this book, weaving memoir with science, Elisa uses the stages of her own life to relate to stages in everyone's lives and the types of anxiety that may be experienced during each phase. She includes the latest in research and other scientific information about anxiety, its causes and treatment. Elisa's story will inspire fellow anxiety sufferers to believe that there is a way to manage their condition and live more freely. From her own experience she also offers hope that anxiety does not have to dominate a life, or even dent it - it can be managed and conquered.

Adventures in Natural Childbirth

Janet Schwegel, Pam England
Authors:
Janet Schwegel, Pam England

Over the last few years, more and more women have been resisting the allure of "labour-free" elective C-sections in favour of the benefits of natural childbirth. Not only is it widely considered the best and safest way to deliver a child, natural childbirth empowers women by reinforcing their belief in themselves and their abilities. In Adventures in Natural Childbirth, editor Janet Schwegel taps into this growing movement with a fascinating collection of personal, engaging, and revealing stories from thirty-nine women on their journey through pregnancy, labour, and natural childbirth. These women's tales capture the full range of emotions and physical sensations natural childbirth can evoke, from calm to fear, from elation to pain, and everything in between, and give readers a true sense of the joys and the hardships involved. Divided into sections by caregiver (midwife, doula, physician, or unattended) and complete with essays from practitioners on their roles in natural birth and how they help women achieve their goals, Adventures in Natural Childbirth is essential reading for any woman who is considering,or is simply curious about, giving birth naturally.

Slow Fat Triathlete

Jayne Williams
Authors:
Jayne Williams

The idea of participating in a triathlon may sound out of the realm of possibility for those without a typical jock-athlete's honed build, intense focus, and competitive mindset. But now Slow Fat Triathlete opens the door to those who may not come quite so equipped. After years of obesity, poor health, and self-doubt, Jayne Williams took part in her first triathlon in 2002 to prove something to herself and became hooked on the rush of the race. Today she is a self-proclaimed "slow fat triathlete," unafraid to overcome humiliation, laugh at her foibles, have fun, and accomplish impressive goals. Slow Fat Triathlete is a book for those who may be overweight, out of shape, undisciplined, or otherwise unprepared to enter a triathlon but are curious to try. Through personal stories, practical ideas and suggestions, and uproarious anecdotes, this book inspires, encourages, and proves that with a little training, almost everybody can have a great time and reap huge rewards from pursuing their tri dreams, and that everyone can become a participant and an athlete.

Feeding Your Child - The Brazelton Way

Joshua Sparrow, T. Berry Brazelton
Authors:
Joshua Sparrow, T. Berry Brazelton

Nursing newborns, picky toddlers, four-year-olds with bizarre food preferences-at every age, parents are concerned with what their children eat. In this indispensable, straight-to-the-point guide, Brazelton and Sparrow follow the same approach of the earlier three very successful books in this series. First they apply the Touchpoints philosophy to feeding (watch for the setbacks that often come before a leap of progress), then they follow feeding progress age by age, and finally they deal with the most common issues: breast or bottle, weaning, basic nutritional needs, the over-involved parent, food battles, adolescent overeating, and the roots of eating disorders. Mealtimes can be fun, healthy, family times-the Brazelton Way.
