Tool of War

By Paolo Bacigalupi

  • Paperback
  • £8.99

From New York Times bestselling and multi-award-winning author Paolo Bacigalupi comes the third novel set in the eerily prescient future established in his Printz Award winner Ship Breaker, now in paperback.

From Printz Award winner and National Book Award finalist Paolo Bacigalupi comes the third companion novel in the dystopic Ship Breaker universe. Set in a future swamped by rising seas, depleted resources, corporate government, and civil war, this novel stars the most provocative, most talked-about, most controversial character from Paolo Bacigalupi's highly acclaimed books Ship Breaker and The Drowned Cities, and pulls no punches in exploring the gray areas between what it means to be human--and animal.

An attack on the Drowned Cities leaves Tool, a part-human, part-animal super-soldier with heightened physical abilities, on the run. His pack of compatriots is destroyed, and his only allies are humans whom he can't afford to trust. But now he must resist his bioengineered impulse of loyalty toward his masters and embark on an all-out war against those who have enslaved him.

Lulu the Broadway Mouse

Jenna Gavigan
Authors:
Jenna Gavigan

Lulu is a little girl with a very big dream: she wants to be on Broadway. She wants it more than anything in the world. As it happens, she lives in Broadway's Shubert Theatre; so achieving her dream shouldn't be too tricky, right? Wrong. Because the thing about Lulu? She's a little girl mouse. When a human girl named Jayne joins the cast of the show at the Shubert as an understudy, Lulu becomes Jayne's guide through the world of her theatre and its wonderfully kooky cast and crew. Together, Jayne and Lulu learn that sometimes dreams turn out differently than we imagined; sometimes they come with terms and conditions (aka the company mean girl, Amanda). But sometimes, just when we've given up all hope, bigger and better dreams than we'd ever thought could come true, do.

She finally feels a glimpse of who she can be, independent of anyone else. Then one day, Doc decides he is going to win her back . . . Punk is nothing without the freedom to be exactly who you want. But what if you're not sure who that is yet? Can you make your own noise when everyone else seems so much louder than you?

The representation, understanding, acceptance and 'relatability' of mental health portrayed in this book was, in my opinion, flawless.
