Luck is No Accident, 2nd Edition

Making the Most of Happenstance in Your Life and Career

By John D. Krumboltz and Al Levin

  • Paperback
  • £13.99

Unplanned events - chance occurrences -more often determine life and career choices than all the careful planning we do. A chance meeting, a broken appointment, a spontaneous vacation trip, a 'fill-in' job, a hobby - these are the kinds of experiences that lead to unexpected life directions and career choices.
Newly revised and updated with fresh examples and current issues for today's challenging times, Luck is No Accident actively encourages readers to create their own unplanned events, to anticipate changing their plans frequently, to take advantage of chance events when they happen, and to make the most of what life offers. The book has a friendly, easy style about it, and is packed with personal stories that really bring the ideas into focus.

The Wish

Bill Griffin
Authors:
Bill Griffin

Uniquely the book will be published with 99 different covers, a selection of which can be seen here. Your cover will therefore be a surprise and we really hope that you like the one that you receive.Just over 1,000 days ago, Bill Griffin launched Crowdwish, a website and app with a single proposition - it simply asked people what three things they thought they wanted most. Wishes poured in from all over the world, with the site promising to take some form of meaningful action for the most up-voted wish every twenty-four hours. Wishes that have gained national press attention range from the assisting of a woman who wanted to find a half-decent boyfriend ('just not a dick basically'), duping Katie Hopkins into signing a gagging order and attaching a faux marble plinth to the offices of the Daily Mail. The Wish reviews 99 of the site's most popular wishes, and asks: what are the things we really want, how can we get closer to them and how much happier would we be if they were to come true? The result is a snapshot of the hopes, dreams and desires that unite us all, part reflection on a fascinating social experiment, part humorous rumination on the nature of happiness and part instruction manual for life. The Wish is funny, upbeat and genuinely helpful - each reader is invited to pick one wish from the book that resonates most with them, and email the author for help in making it happen.

Master Class: Living Longer, Stronger and Happier

Peter Spiers
Authors:
Peter Spiers

We all know them and see them in our communities - those amazingly hale, hearty and happy older folks who glide from doubles tennis and a class in digital photography in the morning, to their book club and a board meeting at the community food bank in the afternoon, to a duplicate bridge tournament or choir practice in the evening. We marvel at their stamina and high spirits. They're having fun, they've got a million friends, they're sharp as tacks and they look like they'll go on that way forever. You've heard the expression "Sixty is the new forty" and these are the people they're talking about...baby boomers and beyond. These people didn't get the way they are by consuming the latest fad in dietary supplements or by training their brains with computer software. Their secret - revealed and explained in MASTER CLASS: LIVING LONGER, STRONGER AND HAPPIER - is an active lifestyle that blends moving, thinking, socializing, and creating. These four key elements can be found in 25 core activities or "master activities" that utilize two or more of the elements in fun and exciting ways. For example, ballroom dancing incorporates all four of the elements. Some other examples of "master activities" include learning an instrument or a foreign language, digital photography, genealogy and volunteer work. Readers will: * Hear inspirational stories from active seniors about the joy and fulfilment they find in their rich and active daily lives. *Learn why activities that combine moving, thinking, socializing and creating are key to successful aging, vitality, cognitive health and happiness. * Learn how to enrich activities they love and are already doing and turn them into building blocks of an enriching lifestyle. With an introduction from a leading brain expert and careful references to relevant research throughout, MASTER CLASS: LIVING LONGER, STRONGER AND HAPPIER is supported by the latest research in the fields of psychology and neuro-science, while built on the concrete foundation of the real experiences of real people. People who are living active, happy and healthy lives - and loving every minute.
