Amy Saltzman

Amy Saltzman, MD, is a longtime athlete, holistic physician, mindfulness coach, scientist, wife, mother, devoted student of transformation, and occasional poet. Starting in junior high, Amy both participated in and coached gymnastics; in college, she earned a spot as a walk-on varsity gymnast at Stanford. Later she turned to competitive cycling; and she has been a recreational athlete (cycling, running yoga, and snowboarding) for years. Anneliese Singh

Anneliese A. Singh, PhD, LPC, is associate dean of diversity, equity, and inclusion in the College of Education at the University of Georgia, and associate professor in the department of counseling and human development services. She received her doctorate in counseling psychology from Georgia State University in 2007. Her clinical, research, and advocacy interests include: LGBTQQ counseling, resilience of historically marginalized groups (e.g., LGBTQ, people of color, immigrants), social justice and multicultural counseling and training, feminist theory and practice, and empowerment interventions with survivors of trauma. Singh is a cofounder of the Georgia Safe Schools Coalition, an organization that works at the intersection of heterosexism, racism, sexism, and other oppressions to create safe school environments in Georgia, and she founded the Trans Resilience Project to translate findings from her 15 years of research on the resilience that transgender people develop to navigate societal oppression.

Beth Kempton

Beth Kempton has a Masters Degree in Japanese and has spent many years living and working in Japan, which she considers her second home. Carolyn Coker Ross

Carolyn Coker Ross, MD, MPH, is a physician, author, and nationally recognized speaker. Ross is a graduate of the University of Michigan Medical School, and an alumna of Andrew Weil's integrative medicine program at the University of Arizona. She is board-certified in addiction medicine. She is former chief of the eating disorders program at Sierra Tucson, an addiction treatment center in Tucson, AZ. David Owen

David Owen achieved 1st class honours in BA Creative Writing and MA Writing for Children at The University of Winchester, where he went on to teach on the BA Creative Writing course for three years. Jamil Zaki

JAMIL ZAKI received his Ph.D. in psychology from Columbia University, and then conducted postdoctoral research at the Harvard University Center for Brain Sciences. He is now a Professor of Psychology at Stanford University and the Director of the Stanford Social Neuroscience Lab. His research focuses on the cognitive and neural bases of social behaviour, and in particular on how people understand each other's emotions (empathic accuracy), why they conform to each other (social influence), and why they choose to help each other (altruism). His work on empathy has been well received in the academic community. He has published over 50 articles, spoken at about 100 conferences around the world, and received awards from organizations including the National Science Foundation, the Association for Psychological Science, the Society for Neuroscience, the Society for Personality and Social Psychology, and Harvard and Stanford Universities. He is also passionate about applying this research, and has joined forces with many people outside academia to help advise and test empathy-building interventions. Jamil is an avid science communicator for years, devoting great energy to helping the public understand their power of empathy. He has written about how a "choice view" of empathy speaks to policing (for The New Yorker), parenting (for The Atlantic Monthly), philanthropy (for The New York Times) and medicine (for Nautilus Magazine). He has also written about empathy and pro-sociality for Scientific American and WIRED. His outreach efforts have broadened even further more recently, through The Lutz Experiment (forthcoming from Simon & Schuster), a collaborative book project with the comedian and writer John Lutz (SNL, 30 Rock, The Late Show with Seth Myers).

Jean Klein

Jean Klein, master of Advaita Vedanta in the tradition of Ramana Maharshi and Atmananda Krishna Menon and author of many books on non-dualism, spent several years in India going deeply into the subjects of Advaita and Yoga. Jonas A. Horwitz, PhD, received a doctorate in clinical psychology from Virginia Commonwealth University, where he conducted extensive research on adults who wrestle with chronic depressive disorders. Kate Gustin

Kate Gustin, PhD, is a clinical psychologist practicing in the San Francisco Bay Area. Matthew McKay, PhD, is a professor at the Wright Institute in Berkeley, CA. Michael A. Tompkins

Michael A. Tompkins, PhD, ABPP, is codirector of the San Francisco Bay Area Center for Cognitive Therapy; assistant clinical professor at the University of California, Berkeley; and a diplomate and founding fellow of the Academy of Cognitive Therapy. Tompkins specializes in the treatment of anxiety disorders and obsessive compulsive spectrum disorders in adults, adolescents, and children. He is the author or coauthor of numerous articles on cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and related topics, as well as seven books, including three books published by New Harbinger Publications, Digging Out, OCD: A Guide for the Newly Diagnosed, and Anxiety and Avoidance. Tompkins serves on the Advisory Board of Magination Press, the children's press of the American Psychological Association. He is a certified supervisor and trainer for the Beck Institute for Cognitive Behavior Therapy and the Academy of Cognitive Therapy. Tompkins has been featured in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, on NPR, and has presented over 250 workshops, lectures, and keynote addresses on CBT and related topics.

Michael L. Emmons

Michael Emmons, PhD, is a psychologist in private practice, who has been a consultant to educational, government and business organizations, a trainer of marriage and family counseling interns at California Polytechnic State University, and author/co-author of seven books.Emmons and assertiveness training became synonymous when he co-authored Your Perfect Right with Robert Alberti. Since 1970, he has devoted much of his life's work to furthering and understanding assertiveness.
