And Now We Have Everything

Meaghan O'Connell
Authors:
Meaghan O'Connell

Meaghan O'Connell always felt totally alienated by the cutesy, sanctimonious, sentimental tone of most writing about motherhood. After getting accidentally pregnant in her twenties, she realized that the book she needed - a brutally honest, agenda-less take on the emotional and existential impact of motherhood - didn't exist. So she decided to write it herself. And Now We Have Everything is O'Connell's brave exploration of transitioning into motherhood as a fledgling young adult. With her dark humor and hair-trigger B.S. detector, O'Connell addresses the pervasive imposter syndrome that comes with unplanned pregnancy, the second adolescence of a changing postpartum body, the problem of sex post-baby, the weird push to make "mom friends," and the fascinating strangeness of stepping into a new, not-yet-comfortable identity. Most unforgettably, O'Connell brings us into the delivery room as no writer has before, rendering childbirth in all its feverish gore and glory, and shattering the fantasies of a "magical" or "natural" experience that warp our expectations and erode maternal self-esteem.Channeling fears and anxieties that are, shockingly, still taboo and often unspoken, And Now We Have Everything is an unflinchingly frank, funny, and intimate motherhood story for our times, about needing to have a baby in order to stop being one yourself.

The moment you see that little "+" on the pregnancy test, everything changes. Baby comes first. And that's absolutely beautiful. Mom Hacks changes all that. Mom Hacks author Dr. Darria Gillespie outlines five building blocks (Purpose, Nutrition, Exercise, Sleep and Stress) and over 100 tips to lead mothers into peak health, rest, and vibrancy. Similar to popular bestsellers such as The 4-Hour Body, Mom Hacks offers a useful guide to health and fitness, addressing the question: what are the tiniest changes that produce the biggest results? Here, the answers come from a doctor who is also a mom.

A New Theory of Teenagers

Christa Santangelo
Authors:
Christa Santangelo

In her decades of practice and academic research, Dr. Christa Santangelo, a psychologist and assistant clinical professor at the University of California-San Francisco, has seen many relationships devastated by the emotional hurricane that teenagers can inflict on a family. Yet Dr. Santangelo also understands how that conflict can be resolved and a new way forward mapped together between parents and teen. In A New Theory of Teenagers, she gives parents the advice, tips, support, and big-picture overview needed to see the teen years as an opportunities for growth and positive relationship changes. With counterintuitive steps (such as "Endure Emotions"), she offers hope and empowerment. Dr. Santangelo asserts that parents have a far greater impact on conflict with their teen than they may realize, metaphorically handing parents back the power to shift the situation to harmony. And, Dr. Santangelo does it with a fresh and multi-dimensional approach to the parent-teen relationship by integrating conventional psychology with alternative methods including yoga and meditation-intended to work on building trust, sitting with and understanding emotions, and seeing room for positivity in the midst of it all.

Authors:
Greg Crosby, Tonya K Lippert

Adult attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) can make even simple everyday tasks-like paying bills or getting groceries-extremely difficult. At the end of the day, you may feel unfocused, and life may seem unmanageable. However, this struggle isn't the result of an inability to pay attention, as is so widely believed. Studies now show that ADHD results from an inability to maintain attentiveness.Adults with adult ADHD can and often do focus on things they enjoy, but have trouble focusing on things that aren't as interesting to them. More and more, experts are acknowledging that, rather than a deficit of attention, ADHD is really about adjusting attention between hyperfocusing and underfocusing.Redefining ADHD draws on psychology, biology, neuroscience, sociology, and other disciplines to provide an innovative guide for learning how to better regulate your attention. Looking at ADHD through the framework of IPNB-a model that see's one's mind, brain, body, and relationships as intimately connected-you'll discover how to rewire your brain for better attention regulation and overall well-being.With the research-based exercises, tools, and techniques in this book, you'll learn how to effectively manage your attention so you can focus on what it is you need to do-and do it well.
