Controlling Your Mind

David A. Clark
Authors:
David A. Clark

Stop disruptive, negative thoughts at their root with a new method of mental control from one of the most distinguished figures in the field of CBTOur mind is always active, capable of generating free-floating thoughts that are entirely disconnected from each other and may have little relevance to our current situation. Sometimes these thoughts take on a darker, more negative tone because they're triggered by a stressful or problematic situation. These unwanted intrusive thoughts play an important role in the persistence and severity of anxiety and depression. They often trigger other forms of distressing thought such as obsessive thinking, worry, rumination or pathological guilt. Based on new findings on the nature of mental control, this book targets negative, intrusive thoughts with therapeutic strategies based on cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT). You will learn:· How our minds become unsettled by doubts and unwanted thoughts· Strategies for developing greater willpower and self-control· Control skills for self-discovery, mental de-toxification and mindful self-acceptance· Way to maximise positive intrusions and be mindfully accepting of yourself

Never Enough

Barney Hoskyns
Authors:
Barney Hoskyns

'This book could save your life' John Crace'An unblinking account of living with - and more importantly, beyond - addiction. Brave, clear-eyed and inspiring' John Niven'A rich, uplifting memoir: Hoskyns portrays how painful inadequacy, masked by drugs, can be replaced by the messiness of ordinary life' Oliver JamesA few months after graduating with a 1st class honours degree from Oxford University, Barney Hoskyns sat in a damp Clapham basement and asked his best friend to inject him with heroin. From that moment on, for the next three years, Hoskyns is hopelessly hooked. This is the searingly honest story of what brought him to this place - and how he got himself out of it. Barney Hoskyns is one of the leading music writers of our time: his books have ranged the musical landscape from Led Zeppelin to Tom Waits, from Laurel Canyon to Woodstock. His articles have appeared in NME, Melody Maker, Rolling Stone and Vogue, and in 2000 he founded Rock's Backpages. Hoskyns beautifully describes the relationship between music and addiction, between love and infatuation. Never Enough is Hoskyns's raw, uncompromising and utterly compelling account of the highs and lows of life under the needle. Interspersed with photos and diary entries, Hosykns examines why he so willingly gave himself up to the death-grip of heroin, and what it took to finally free himself from it.

The third part in this hilarious four-part digital romantic comedy, from the author of The Twelve Dates of Christmas - winner of the Novelicious Debut of the Year award.Elle, determinedly single Elle, isn't used to waking up next to a boy. And she certainly isn't used to being engaged. Thanks to all the (delicious) chilli wine she consumed last night, Elle has no idea how she's managed to get herself into this situation. And as fond as she is of the man lying next to her, and no matter how happy he looks by this turn of events, getting married has never been part of Elle's plan. No way. All that romance stuff just isn't for her . . . right? But the combination of this lovely man, the incredibly romantic Italian countryside and the feel of the early morning sun on her skin is starting to have an effect on Elle. Maybe, just maybe, she's not as anti-love as she thought . . . You Had Me at Merlot is the kind of love story that will have you crying with laughter one moment and nodding your head in agreement the next. Full of sultry summer nights, hilarious moments and plenty of wine, it will warm even the most cynical of hearts and have you believing in the magic of romance (and the power of a decent glass of Merlot).
