Mum's Not Having Chemo

Cutting-edge therapies, real-life stories - a road-map to healing from cancer

By Laura Bond

  • Paperback
  • £14.99

A thoroughly researched and engagingly written book for all those seeking to understand their cancer diagnosis and looking for ways to take a full and empowering role in their recovery.

A book about choices. A book to empower all cancer sufferers and their families.

In March 2011 Laura Bond's mother Gemma was diagnosed with ovarian and uterine cancer. Laura discovered that the only thing more shocking than telling someone your mother has cancer was revealing that she had declined chemotherapy. But, according to studies, many oncologists would do the same. So Laura, a journalist, started writing a blog to explain her mother's decision to say 'no' to mainstream medicine and 'yes' to hydrogen peroxide, vitamin C injections and infrared saunas.

Mum's Not Having Chemo shares Gemma's natural healing story as well as advice from over 60 of the world's leading cancer specialists and holistic healers - from oncologists in Tokyo to energy healers in Harley Street.

If you want to explore alternative options, or find ways to supplement your conventional care, this book provides cutting edge research from around the world and describes treatments road-tested by Gemma and other cancer survivors. It's an invaluable and uplifting companion to help you make the best choices for your own healing journey.

This is the book the world needs to change the face of modern health-care - an absolute must for anyone with cancer and their relatives and friends. Facing a diagnosis of 'The Big C' can be terrifying and for most people their treatment plan and daunting future path is presented to them as a fait accompli. The author's mother Gemma Bond chose a path less trodden and this book beautifully documents the emotional rollercoaster she went on, and the physical challenges she faced. Because Laura has a journalistic mind she has thoroughly researched and really dug out not only the facts and science behind alternative treatments and therapies, but she also provides a very human approach from her experience of supporting her mum. Best of all she clearly lays out how to source these options and gives realistic suggestions. This book is unique and it's also a brilliant resource for the currently 'well'. When it comes to building immunity and cancer prevention, there little to rival it. It's moving, inspirational, informative and wonderfully uplifting all at the same time — Janey Lee Grace, TV and radio presenter and author of Imperfectly Natural Woman and Look Great Naturally Without Ditching the Lipstick

Younger for Longer

Dr Duncan Carmichael
Authors:
Dr Duncan Carmichael

'Revelatory and accessible' Sunday Post'Be good to yourself . . . [Younger for Longer] features wisdom on nutrition, sleep, mood regulation and, most importantly, hormonal health for men and women.'Scotsman'Younger for Longer tells you exactly what you need in order to live an extended healthy life. It's very 80/20 and one of the best books I've read in ages.' Richard Koch, author of million-seller The 80/20 PrincipleThe goal of this book is to show readers how to live a healthy life free from the debilitations of ageing, helping them to stay mentally alert and physically active, and making sure they get the most out of all of their years. That means aiming for optimal health. However, focusing on one factor alone will not get them there. Our sleep, our mood, what we eat, our detoxification system and our hormones are just some of the factors that interact in amazing ways to make us who we are; they are also at the very heart of the aging process. This book shows how these different strands combine in ways that can be positive or negative - and explains why this interaction depends far more on the lifestyle we choose than on the genes we inherit. In that way it gives the reader a unique and comprehensive understanding of their body and tells them how, with this knowledge, they can maximize their health. The topics range from nutrition, toxins, men's health and women's health to understanding why our skin, brain and liver age - and how to undo the damage and stave off ageing. But the book's main focus underlying all of this is hormones: the chemicals that tell different parts of our body what to do. Our hormone levels vary throughout our life, but if they are supported correctly they can keep us youthful and vital into our final years.Finding health, then, is not about seven ways to detox or the five best vitamins. The body is far more complex than that and, in an approach aimed specifically at the layperson, Younger for Longer traces the exciting path of how the body works to help the reader create the best person they can be for the rest of their life.

Oestrogen Matters

Dr Avrum Bluming, Carol Tavris PhD
Authors:
Dr Avrum Bluming, Carol Tavris PhD

'I believe it is an ethical imperative for all clinicians who treat women in menopause or women with breast cancer to alert their patients to this book' Michael Baum, MD, Professor Emeritus of Surgery and visiting professor of Medical Humanities, University College London'A thorough, careful and unbiased assessment . . . This extremely valuable message deserves to be widely disseminated' Lord Turnberg, former President of the Royal College of PhysiciansA compelling defence of hormone replacement therapy, exposing the faulty science behind its fall from prominence and empowering readers to make informed decisions about their health. For years, hormone replacement therapy (HRT) was hailed as a miracle. Study after study showed that HRT, if initiated at the onset of menopause, could ease symptoms ranging from hot flushes to memory loss; reduce the risk of heart disease, Alzheimer's, osteoporosis, and some cancers; and even extend a woman's overall life expectancy. But when a large study by the Women's Health Initiative announced results showing an uptick in breast cancer among women taking HRT, the winds shifted abruptly, and HRT, officially deemed a carcinogen, was abandoned. Now, sixteen years after HRT was left for dead, Dr Bluming, a medical oncologist, and Dr Tavris, a social psychologist, track its strange history and present a compelling case for its resurrection. They investigate what led the public -- and much of the medical establishment -- to accept the Women's Health Initiative's often exaggerated claims, while also providing a fuller picture of the science that supports HRT. A sobering and revelatory read, Oestrogen Matters sets the record straight on this beneficial treatment and provides an empowering path to wellness for women everywhere.

The Cancer Revolution

Leigh Erin Connealy
Authors:
Leigh Erin Connealy

Integrative health pioneer offers her groundbreaking approach to treating (and preventing) cancer, based on 6 Revolutionary Findings, with a practical program and strategies. When it comes to cancer, conventional doctors are trained to treat their patients exclusively with surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy. These methods are grueling on the whole body--and they don't treat beyond the tumor or the cancer itself. The focus is on the disease, not the whole person--and because of this, the outcomes in conventional medicine can be bleak. But it doesn't have to be this way. Dr. Leigh Erin Connealy has developed a whole-person approach to treating cancer--and these treatments have helped thousands of patients through her Cancer Center for Healing. In The Cancer Revolution, Dr. Connealy shows you how to get to the root causes of cancer and the practical steps you can take to get back on the path to healing--from balancing your body's chemistry with nutritional supplements, following a healthy food plan, detoxifying your body and home, exercising regularly, getting deep restful sleep every night, practicing stress reduction techniques, and putting together a supportive healing team.Chemotherapy and radiation have their place in treatment, but in many cases, they are simply not enough, because cancer isn't caused by one thing, but by many different factors. All of these causes must be addressed, not just the tumor. The Cancer Revolution will equip you to make impactful, achievable lifestyle choices that fight the root of the disease, and that offer hope for recovery and a cancer-free life.
