The Golden Rules

10 Steps to World-Class Excellence in Your Life and Work

By Bob Bowman

  • Paperback
  • £14.99

A personal success guide from Bob Bowman, coach to swimmer Michael Phelps, the most decorated Olympic athlete of all time.

Since 2004 no Olympic athlete has received more international exposure than Michael Phelps. And by his side throughout this period has been his coach, Bob Bowman. The two men met when Phelps was just 11 years old. Bowman sensed that the kid had talent - lots of it - but he also knew that raw ability would take Phelps only so far. He would need a plan; a roadmap for success.

Now, for the first time, Bowman reveals the philosophy that governs his approach to coaching both Phelps and other Olympic-calibre athletes, and provides a revealing look at what it takes to achieve greatness. His 10-step method consists of golden rules that anyone can apply to reach their goals in the personal or professional sphere.

Writing in a candid and heartfelt style that is illuminated by spirited anecdotes from over the years coaching a very diverse group of athletes, Bowman will teach you how to get gold out of everyday by setting goals and getting motivated to achieve them. By following The Golden Rules, you will learn to visualise your goals, and that above all else, dedication to your training, your job or any area you are seeking to triumph in is paramount for success.

Biographical Notes

Bob Bowman has been studying the great coaches and leaders since his days as an undergraduate at Florida State University, where he captained the school's nationally ranked swim team. In addition to Phelps, Bowman has been the primary coach for six other Olympic medalists, including Alison Schmitt (a three-time gold medal winner in London), and was the head coach of USA Swimming for the past two Olympics. As a consultant he has advised swimming federations in the United Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates, and Turkey, among others.

Boom Country?

Alan Rosling
Authors:
Alan Rosling

In Boom Country, Alan Rosling, entrepreneur and strategic advisor in India for over 35 years, explores an unmistakeable and profound change that is underway in the Indian business landscape. A fresh wave of enterprise and start-ups; rapid advancements in technology; government reform; and recently developed pools of risk capital, he holds, are contributing increasingly to a massive expansion in new business - all of it underpinned by a deep social change, a willingness to 'do things differently', especially among the young. Drawing upon his own experiences and more than 100 interviews with Indian entrepreneurs - representing traditional leading business houses (Tata, Mahindra, Birla and Godrej), established first-generation entrepreneurs (Sunil Mittal, Kishore Biyani and Narayana Murthy, among others) and new-generation start-ups (including Sachin Bansal, Bhavish Aggarwal and Vijay Shekhar Sharma) - as well as forces of the government, Rosling provides an incisive and in-depth analysis of the opportunities and challenges, both traditional and contemporary, of doing business in India. Yet, the growing uncertainty of global trends and India's own record of under-performing despite its massive potential, lead him to one vital question : Can the current upsurge in entrepreneurial activity - imperfect and early as it may be - really reshape India's economy and propel it towards becoming a true boom country for new enterprise?

'Micro-Resilience is a powerful book that will help you rethink the drive-until-you-drop approach to work. By re-framing your thinking, you can learn to learn bounce back from setbacks and create a life of power and meaning' Daniel Pink, author of Drive and To Sell is HumanAs leadership consultants and executive trainers, Bonnie St. John and Allen Haines have heard the same complaints from clients for years; periodic burnout, lack of focus and low energy. So they dug into the latest research on neuroscience, psychology and physiology looking for big answers. Instead they found small answers; proof that small adjustments in daily routines, including thought patterns, food and drink, rest and movement can fight the forces that sap our energy and store focus and drive. They call these amazing efficient restorative techniques 'micro-resilience.'Thousands of men and women from all walks of life have already found effortless ways to incorporate these little changes into the busiest of schedules. Carol Dweck
Authors:
Carol Dweck

With the right mindset, we can motivate our kids and help them to raise their grades, as well as reach our own goals-personal and professional. Dweck reveals what all great parents, teachers, CEOs, and athletes already know: how a simple idea about the brain can create a love of learning and a resilience that is the basis of great accomplishment in every area.
