Shout and be Shrill with Lindy West’s brilliant memoir

Seeing as it’s Feel Good week over here at Bookends, we thought we’d re-introduce you to one of our favourite memoirs of the year, from one of our favourite women.

In her brilliant, bold book SHRILL, writer and social commentator Lindy West tackles everything from periods to fat shaming to internet trolls – and she does so in a way that’s accessible, relateable and down right hilarious.

Lindy recounts how she went from being the butt of people’s jokes, to telling her own brand of jokes – ones that come with a meaningful agenda and aren’t at someone else’s expense. She reveals the obstacles and misogyny she’s had to overcome to make herself heard, in a society that doesn’t believe women (especially fat women and feminists) can ever be funny.

So sit back this evening (preferably with a glass of vino in hand) and enjoy reading an extract from SHRILL – a lesson in how to accept yourself for who you are, and be proud to be Shrill!
