Graham Allison, founding dean of Harvard's modern John F. Kennedy School of Government, is the director of the Belfer Centre for Science and International Affairs and the Douglas Dillon Professor of Government. The author of Essence of Decision: Explaining the Cuban Missile Crisis, he served as special adviser to the secretary of defence under President Reagan and as assistant secretary of defence under President Clinton.

He contributes documentaries and columns to Radio 4 and is currently working with al-jazeera on a film based around his recent book War Plc - the rise of the new corporate mercenary, which sold out its first print run in 10 days. His first book, The White Island, was published in 2005.
