The Portfolios Of Ansel Adams

By Ansel Adams
Authors:
Ansel Adams
From 1948 - 1976 Ansel Adams produced seven portfolios, each a limited edition of 10-15 signed photographic prints. This book reproduces all 90 of these superb images, including many of Adams' most famous monumental landscape photographs and some remarkable, less familiar portraits and architecture studies. The book was first published in 1977 and in 1981 it was decided to take advantage of new printing technology to have the book re-designed. In this new printing the typography from the introductory texts of the original portfolios was reproduced. In addition, new laser-scanned separations were made of all the images to guarantee the best possible reproductions of the photographs. In his eloquent introduction, John Szarkowski observes that 'of all Adams' publications, his portfolios most clearly represent his personal view of the meaning of his work.

People In Vogue

By Robin Muir, Robin Derrick
Authors:
Robin Muir, Robin Derrick
The archives of British Vogue define modern portraiture. Its collection remains the essential barometer of the social and cultural changes of the last century. So, portrayed here are the great, the good, and, frequently, the infamous too. PEOPLE IN VOGUE provides an insight into those who, through talent, beauty, personality or an alchemical combination of all three, set a stamp on their age. From life-enhancers to the great catalysts of change. Princesses and pop stars. Models, writers and actors. Architects and designers. Society beauties and style dictators. Scientists and world leaders. They all appear here, fixed in their time by the 20th-century's leading photographers: Hoppe, Baron de Meyer, Horst, Beaton, Steichen, Snowdon, Parkinson, Bailey, Newton, Weber, Knight, Teller, Testino and others. A commentary accompanies each picture, describing the subject and their allure (or notoriety) in terms of their era, circumstance and lifestyle, frequently with the reactions of Vogue's critics and commentators. PEOPLE IN VOGUE is a unique modern archive of a century and beyond -- as stunningly produced as the people within its pages.

Preston Bailey's Design For Entertaining

Preston Bailey
Illustrated by:
Roger Dong, Kirk Kirkbride
Preston Bailey's DESIGN FOR ENTERTAINING is a sourcebook of inspiration and ideas for envisioning and creating the perfect ambiance for any major party or event. In an engaging, clearly written text peppered with examples and tips, Bailey guides the reader through the process of planning a party with his 'total decor concept' that brings all the elements of a party together to create a singular environment. Beginning with large decisions such as picking the theme, creating the mood and transforming the space to fit the vision for the event, it moves on to the details - flowers, lighting, table settings - that help promote the theme or enhance a mood. Throughout the book are fill-colour photos of events - including Melissa Rivers' wedding and the launch party for Oprah's 'O' Magazine - that put this approach into action. Bailey's background is in floral design and many of his most dramatic arrangements are featured on these pages. Alongside these magnifdicent creations there are tips on how to adapt the same principles to a more intimate scale or lower budget. Above all Bailey encourages anyone planning a party to allow their creativity to blossom and have fun while designing their dream event.
