Megan doesn’t speak. She hasn’t spoken in months.

Pushing away the people she cares about is just a small price to pay. Because there are things locked inside Megan’s head – things that are screaming to be heard – that she cannot, must not, let out.

Then Jasmine starts at school: bubbly, beautiful, talkative Jasmine. And for reasons Megan can’t quite understand, life starts to look a bit brighter.

Megan would love to speak again, and it seems like Jasmine might be the answer. But if she finds her voice, will she lose everything else?

UKYA is just getting better. And with this stunning debut by British author, Abbie Rushton, this is no longer an opinion, but a fact ... Rushton has totally smashed this one: she pulls Unspeakable off with total sensitivity, a narrative that is excitingly enticing, which draws you in from page one.

I loved Unspeakable. It's an engrossing thriller about dangerous secrets and the toxicity of guilt; it's also an immensely sympathetic portrayal of someone feeling her way towards a love she wasn't expecting. Megan is wonderful - a heroine haunted into silence by the past, who can find it in her heart to forgive everyone except herself.

Pacy and compelling ... This comes with a warning though, because once you start reading this it demands to be finished - and you probably won't manage it without shedding a few tears either.
