The Sunday Times top ten bestselling memoir of Tracey Thorn's 30-year pop career with Marine Girls and Everything But The Girl, and her collaborations with Paul Weller, Massive Attack and Todd Terry. A Radio 4 Book of the Week in March 2013.

I was only sixteen when I bought an electric guitar and joined a band. A year later, I formed an all-girl band called the Marine Girls and played gigs, and signed to an indie label, and started releasing records.

Then, for eighteen years, between 1982 and 2000, I was one half of the group Everything But the Girl. In that time, we released nine albums and sold nine million records. We went on countless tours, had hit singles and flop singles, were reviewed and interviewed to within an inch of our lives. I've been in the charts, out of them, back in. I've seen myself described as an indie darling, a middle-of-the-road nobody and a disco diva. I haven't always fitted in, you see, and that's made me face up to the realities of a pop career - there are thrills and wonders to be experienced, yes, but also moments of doubt, mistakes, violent lifestyle changes from luxury to squalor and back again, sometimes within minutes.

Biographical Notes

Tracey Thorn was singer and songwriter with Everything But the Girl from 1982-2000. At that point she semi-retired from the music business to bring up her children. She has since recorded three solo albums, Out of the Woods, Love and Its Opposite, and Tinsel and Lights. She lives in London with her husband Ben Watt and their three children.

The Alan Bennett of pop memoirists. I loved her book so much I wanted to form a band, too. Preferably with Thorn. — Caitlin Moran, Bestselling Author Of How To Be A Woman
As distinctive and lovely as its author's singing voice, Bedsit Disco Queen isn't just a wry and wise memoir of a unique career: it acts as a kind of eulogy for a forgotten era of British pop. — Alexis Petridis
A corker of a read: fascinating, compelling and beautifully written. — Emma Kennedy, Bestselling Author Of The Tent, The Bucket And Me
An intensely readable account of thirty years of being in love with music ... Most would recognise her voice, with its rich blend of melancholy and yearning. Her written voice is similarly distinctive: warm, assertive, sweetly funny, but most of all honest. — Daily Telegraph - Chris Harvey
As a witty and wise chronicle of a life spent dipping in and out of the limelight, this is second to none. — Independent on Sunday - Fiona Sturges

In The Pleasure Groove

John Taylor

With Duran Duran, John Taylor has created some of the greatest songs of our time. From the disco dazzle of debut single 'Planet Earth' right up to their latest number one album All You Need is Now, Duran Duran has always had the power to sweep the world onto its feet. It's been a ride - and for John in particular, the ride has been wild, thrilling... and dangerous. Now, for the first time, he tells his incredible story - a tale of dreams fulfilled, lessons learned and demons conquered. A shy only child, Nigel John Taylor wasn't an obvious candidate for pop stardom and frenzied girl panic. But when he ditched his first name and picked up a bass guitar, everything changed. John formed Duran Duran with his friend Nick Rhodes in the spring of 1978, and they were soon joined by Roger Taylor, then Andy Taylor and finally Simon Le Bon. Together they were an immediate, massive global success story, their pictures on millions of walls, every single a worldwide hit. In his frank, compelling autobiography, John recounts the highs - hanging out with icons like Bowie, Warhol and even James Bond; dating Vogue models and driving fast cars - all the while playing hard with the band he loved. But he faced tough battles ahead - troubles that brought him to the brink of self-destruction - before turning his life around.Told with humour, honesty and hard-won wisdom, and packed with exclusive pictures, In the Pleasure Groove is a fascinating, irresistible portrait of a man who danced into the fire... and came through the other side.

See A Little Light

Bob Mould, Michael Azerrad

Bob Mould emerged at the epicenter of America's punk rock scene upon forming H?sker D? in 1979. Their music roused a generation. For the very first time, Mould opens up to tell the passionate story of life inside that furnace, creating music that mattered. He details the growth of his own music, from an early love of the Ramones to the making of H?sker D? classics like 'Bed of Nails' and '59 Times the Pain.' Opening up about drug addictions, suicide, what it meant to come out as gay in a heavily hetero music world, and the band's violent implosion, Mould takes us on a whirlwind ride, culminating with his sobriety, his solo career, and creating the band Sugar.A classic story of individualism and persistence, Mould's memoir is an open account of one man's driving force, which altered the shape of American music.

Tina Fey

Once in a generation a woman comes along who changes everything. Tina Fey is not that woman, but she met that woman once and acted weird around her. Before 30 Rock, Mean Girls and 'Sarah Palin', Tina Fey was just a young girl with a dream: a recurring stress dream that she was being chased through a local airport by her middle-school gym teacher. She also had a dream that one day she would be a comedian on TV. She has seen both these dreams come true.At last, Tina Fey's story can be told. From her youthful days as a vicious nerd to her tour of duty on Saturday Night Live; from her passionately halfhearted pursuit of physical beauty to her life as a mother eating things off the floor; from her one-sided college romance to her nearly fatal honeymoon - from the beginning of this paragraph to this final sentence.Tina Fey reveals all, and proves what we've all suspected: you're no one until someone calls you bossy.

Neil Diamond

Laura Jackson

Neil Diamond has been responsible for writing some of the most memorable songs in pop music history and he has sold in excess of 120 million albums and has continued to reign as one of the Top 5 most successful solo artists in pop music. After years of anonymity in Tin Pan Alley churning out hits for other artistes, Neil Diamond burst onto the scene in his own right in 1969 with 'Sweet Caroline.' However, superstardom has come at a personal cost - he is a star who has suffered periods of crippling self doubt. He is an intriguing blend of contradictions - a massively charismatic dazzling live performer, yet deeply introspective off stage. In this fascinating portrait, his life, his music and his passions are explored from his childhood struggle to get out of Brooklyn, through five decades of global stardom, to the present day. NEIL DIAMOND: THE BIOGRAPHY provides a definitive insight into one of the most enduring, creative, and prolific singer-songwriters of his generation, exploring the complex man behind the glittering legend.

Hail! Hail! Rock'n'roll

John Harris

HAIL! HAIL! ROCK'N'ROLL is the ultimate guide to what Spinal Tap called 'the majesty of rock, the mystery of roll'. Gloriously irreverent, it is also satisfyingly definitive, with a list of every Glastonbury line-up; a dictionary of obscure genres from Alt.country to Shoegazing; a brutally honest guide to the Beatles' solo albums; the surprising wit and wisdom of Shaun Rider and Noel Gallagher; Bob Dylan's collected thoughts on Christianity and Keith Richards' less-collected thoughts on drugs; and a handy flow chart that shows you how to listen to all of Captain Beefheart's albums without going insane. From essential stage equipment to strange collaborations (Lou Reed and Kiss, anyone?) to the long, tragic journey of the rock moustache, HAIL! HAIL! ROCK'N'ROLL is an endlessly fascinating miscellany from one of the best music writers around.
