Dear Mr. Gere

Richard Gere. Two words likely to strike passion into the hearts of women throughout the land. At Between the Sheets we know him more fondly as Richard ‘Have I always been a silver fox?’ Gere, or more simply by his real middle name, Tiffany.

With his starring role in Warner Bros’ brilliant Nights in Rodanthe, based on the bestselling novel by Nicholas Sparks, Richard’s moving up a gear (*wince*). And it’s got us thinking about our top Gere (now you’re getting the hang of it) moments. Post a comment below or email betweenthesheets@littlebrown.co.uk to tell us yours!

American Gigolo (1980)
More a slate fox than a silver one.
The memory of a topless Fox packing up his old kit bag with, well, kit, is a very happy one.

An Officer and a Gentleman (1982)
Fox rising.
Love lift us up where we belong. Oh go on. Please. How we’ve wished we could be swept into the arms of a man in uniform and whisked off to the tunes of Joe Cocker and Jennifer Warnes. To a mountain high. Where eagles fly. (And foxes roam.)

Pretty Woman (1990)
Agile fox.
‘So what happens after he climbs up the tower and rescues her?’
‘She rescues him right back.’
Sob.

Sommersby (1993)
Fox at his most, er, inquisitive.
‘You are not Jack Sommersby, so why do you keep pretending that you are?’
‘How do you know I’m not?’
‘I know because . . .’
‘How do you know?’
‘I know because . . .’
‘How do you know?’

First Knight (1995)
Family fox.
‘From brother to brother. Yours in life and death.’ That second bit sounds like a good deal.

Runaway Bride (1999)
Fox on the run.
Fox and Julia reunite for this somewhat slim slice of rom-com. It had us belting down the (cinema) aisles as well.

Unfaithful (2002)
Poor fox.
Fox plays a devastated husband to Diane Lane’s character in this thoughtful, provocative drama about infidelity. Fox can console himself at being considerably foxier than Lane’s lover, who rather stupidly says: ‘Your eyes are amazing, do you know that? You should never shut them, not even at night.’ Hmm, not sure that’s going to work.

Nights in Rodanthe (2008)
Fox in his prime.
Fox is reunited with Diane Lane in this excellent adaptation of Nicholas Sparks’ bestselling novel. As silver and foxy as a silver fox can be.
