The Between the Sheets team are determined not to make any New Years' resolutions this time around...
It's always tempting to go into the New Year thinking, Now what can I do better? What can I change about myself or my life that will make me happier/healthier/more fulfilled? Well we at BtS think there's a hell of a lot to be said for hanging on to the good things – and we bet, if pushed, you can think of several you wouldn't mind hanging on to either. So before you go changing, remember some things are better kept the same ...
In 2009 I'm keeping hold of my unbridled love for Magic FM. I've said for years that I need to keep up with modern music a bit more, but it's obviously just not meant to be. I love power-ballading my way through 'Alone' by Heart while peeling some spuds or crooning along to Dire Strait's 'Romeo and Juliet' as I'm making my bed. It's instant nostalgia and romance with every tune. It even makes Dr Fox bearable! Sorry – Professor Neil Fox, as I think he now likes to be known.
This year I finally realised I could be a non-smoker who very occasionally smokes. I always thought I'd either be on a ten a day or none at all, and I'm happy to be able to have the odd cheeky cigarette without beating myself up about it. It also means I can, for the first time, be that annoying person who never buys their own but smokes everyone else's. I'll be keeping hold of that for 2009, and if I decide to give up completely then so be it. I know I'll never smoke as much as I did two years ago, and I'm proud of myself for that.
Last year I definitely watched less reality TV than in 2007, and that has to be a good thing. It follows that I should watch even less in 2009. Judging by this year's dire Celebrity Big Brother, this shouldn't be too hard. (Quote Michelle Liberty X Heaton: 'I'm really p!ssed off with Coolio.' Where else?)
I'll be hanging on to my Uggs for 09 to keep feet warm in freezing weather. Brr!
In 2008 I started doing crafty make-your-own things, and while I find it all a bit fiddly, I'd like to keep doing it in 09. Before Christmas I made three owls out of stuffing, buttons and felt. I'm not sure what to do with them now, especially since people keep pointing out that one of their beaks is upside-down. I'm not really sure how a triangle-shaped beak can be upside-down, but maybe it can.
