Hollywood has been trying to find an actress to play Kay Scarpetta ever since the queen of grisly crime writing, Patricia Cornwell, created the character almost twenty years ago. The LA Times has now revealed that Angelina Jolie will be playing the signature character in an upcoming film role.

We’re delighted to announce that The Bay of Noon by Shirley Hazzard and The Birds on the Trees by Nina Bawden, and The Fire-Dwellers by Margaret Laurence (sorry folks, the judges got the eligibility criteria mixed up, so The Fire-Dwellers had to be withdrawn) have made the longlist for the Lost Man Booker Prize, a one-off prize to honour books published in 1970. A change in the focus of the prize meant that they all missed out on the opportunity to win the Booker Prize. The shortlist will be announced on 25 March 2010.
