Angelina Jolie to star in Scarpetta movie series

Hugely exciting news from the US, where Variety.com's New York reporter Michael Fleming has a story on an imminent movie deal - possibly for a series or ongoing franchise - that will see mega-star Angelina Jolie take on the role of Kay Scarpetta, heroine of the mega-best-selling series by the one and only Patricia Cornwell.

Michael Fleming reports: "There are 16 Scarpetta novels, meaning a franchise is hoped for, but this film won't be tied to a specific Cornwell mystery title. Much the way that Jason Bourne morphed into an action hero in plots not rigidly locked into the Robert Ludlum book series, the opera-loving coroner Scarpetta will be the lead in a suspense thriller in the vein of The Silence of the Lambs and Seven."

For more information, see the full article on www.variety.com.

The Scarpetta books are published in the UK by Little,Brown / Sphere. The latest title in the series, Scarpetta, is out now in hardback and will be published in paperback on May 14th 2009.

jolie wouldnt suit either of the roles

she's (much) too old to play lucy and just not right for scarpetta
