Hachette Digital, formerly Hachette Audio, is the imprint responsible for publishing in electronic formats. The change of name from January 2008 reflects the widening nature of our digital operations.
Audiobook publishing has historically been an area of great strength for Little, Brown: our titles have been acclaimed for the quality of adaptation, readers and packaging. Increasingly, these are available completely unabridged.
We’ve recorded over 400 audiobooks to date, and we publish on CD and as digital downloads; all titles are available to buy and download from online retailers such as Audible and iTunes.
We have had an ebook publishing programme for more than eight years, but demand for ebooks is now higher than ever. We have a major ongoing plan for digitisation, across both front and backlist titles, and currently have more than a thousand titles available as ebooks. Our titles are available from the major ebook retailers including the Amazon’s Kindle store, Waterstones, W. H. Smith and Apple’s iBookstore.
In addition to this, we have a number of enhanced titles available as apps for the iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad and other devices. The one certainty in digital publishing is that no one knows with any certainty how the market will develop. Our strategy is to be ready for whatever opportunities present themselves for publishing, marketing and selling books in this arena, and we are determined that the high standards and commercial success that Little, Brown and its authors enjoy in printed and physical formats are replicated in the digital space.
